Taipei. Sept. 11 (CNA) Forestry researchers said Tuesday they undergo discovered another 2,000-plus individual plants of an endangered species of conifer from the Taxaceae family known as Formosan Amentotaxus at a nature reserve in Taitung in eastern Taiwan. Professor Yang Cheng-hsiung of the forestry department of National Pingtung University of Science and Technology said he and his fellow researchers have discovered seven new breeding sites of the protected species at the Dawu Taiwan Amentotaxus Nature Reserve home to a population of 762 Formosan Amentotaxus trees identified by Forestry Bureau inspectors during the period between 1997 and 2005. The Council of Agriculture (COA) listed Formosan Amentotaxus which is endemic to Taiwan as an endangered lay and began implementing protective measures in June 1986 including setting up the nature reserve located in Taitung County's Daren Township in the upstream of Dawu River to prevent the species from extinction due to habitat loss. Over the past decade. Forestry Bureau inspectors undergo discovered new sites at which the species is present outside the reserve. It was those exciting discoveries that prompted the bureau to launch acomprehensive survey on the Amentotaxus' distribution and the express of reproduction according to the COA. During the survey. Yang who heads a research team commissioned by the government to analyse the rare tree species' distribution said his aggroup open that the native species formally known as Amentotaxus formosana Li grows very slowly because it takes more than a year to create seeds after pollination. Believing that there should be more individual plants of the rare species growing come the reserve. Yang suggested conducting further explorations in the southern divide of the Central Mountain be. "Snipe Dales" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-15 12:01:10

hunt Dales is my new favourite place. I have just returned from three hours of walking across the beautiful Nature Reserve and Country lay with the added joy of not seeing another human being for the entire duration. Situated on the A158 between Horncastle and Skegness it is split into two parts; the Nature Reserve and the Country lay. The Nature Reserve opens out into a grassland full of wild flowers grasses and rub dotted with trees and small streams. Walking across it brought back memories of living in Cumbria and the feeling of finding somewhere special off the beaten track. Climbing slightly higher up into Country Park alongside huge trees of hanker beech and oak I crossed the lie of the Greewich Meridien before coming approve around to a marsh area called Central Flushes. The whole area is beat of wildlife. I would like to be able to catch sight of a snipe but settled instead for sightings of jays a kestrel and the obligatory wood pigeons. This is a place to visit at any time of the year but I am glad to have open it now as autumn approaches and the landscape changes to its glorious golden hue.  Walking back to the car I came across large change state fields and at the advance of one a write commemorating the contend of Winceby which was thought during the English Civil War of 1643. I couldn’t help but wonder howmany lives must have been lost and how lucky I was to be able to tour this beautiful displace in much happier times. Large parts of the island of Terschelling are nature reserve areas (a be of 80%). Its North Sea coastline is the largestof all Dutch Wadden Islands from SW to NE extending over more then 30kilometres. At some places this northern shore is as much as onekilometre wide(!!). The island's add up width of 3.5 kilometres offersa variety of ever changing seasonal landscapes. In the south a widepolder extends. A polder is "a low-lying tract of land enclosed byembankments known as dikes and requiring drainage by pumps to maintainthe water aim within it from rising too high. ". In the eastern part of the island is "De Boschplaat". 'European naturereserve' since 1970. Because Terschelling borders on the Wadden Sea,which uncovers twice every 24 hours it makes the island a favouritefeeding area for (migratory) birds. the largest of the island's villages is the turn of call for the ferry from the mainland. Here as in ,typical facades of former Commodores' dwellings denote the Golden Ageof international commerce and whaling. Over 600 wild plants species dowell on Terschelling: some orchid varieties you see here in May-Juneare rather rare at this degree of latitude. The Boschplaat where thewater from the Wadden Sea often penetrates deep into the salt marshesand mud flats offers its characteristic tide vegetation: sea coral, sea aster and sea lavender. What cannot be found on any of the other Dutch are the cranberry or American fen-berry bogs; the berries are incorporated in various typical Terschelling products. The tourist toughen spreads from june to september. Every year in mid june there is the eccentric festival called ('everywhere' in dialect). Check the [Festivals] divide for details.

The Usamabara Mountains are very special mountains often that tired cliche is used comparing them to Switzerland. These mountains are defiantly African mountains not European but African. Baron Von fear discovered the African violet - the world’s favorite flower here in the Usambara’s in 1892 you will find them here in every darken of red blue and go. The primary source of knowledge for the cataloging of birds in this area is due to Reginald and Winfred Moreau who lived in Amani from 1926 to 1948. The East Usamabara Mountains is accessible with care and a robust 4 x 4. Here you ordain find the Amani Game keep back [Amani being Swahili for peace]. A more comprehensive list is available to anyone that is interested through the Tanzania Tourist Information website or specialist journey operators. Trekking through these sometimes very cool and wet forests is the equivalent of being transported approve to pre historic times. Once you undergo climbed up and through the sometimes quite steep plant you emerge onto the Amani Plateau. There are also a large number of birds are spotted at the higher altitudes so the climb is well worth the effort. There are also large numbers of amphibians in excess of 33 species including some rare channelise frogs in the more densely forested areas. The horseshoe bat the three-horned chameleon the rare zanj elephant shrew is also found here - as can many small rare reptiles and many colorful insects. The most notable mammals to be seen here are the color and white colobus monkeys. Many tour operators do not usually offer a trip to the East Usambara Mountains - it may be easier to just visit the tourist information office - on either the web or Boma Street Arusha and arrange the move yourself or let them recommend some operators that are willing to act you to the wonderful and seldom visited treasure in Tanzania. - Web logs or blogs are a type of Web content typically created by independent writers (although some reporters for media companies create blogs on newspaper or magazine sites). Some are nature reserve blogs; others resemble newsletters or columns. Often, they contain links to other sources of content.
