"The Saudi ?Peace Initiative? ? The Next Strategic Failure-analysis" posted by ~Ray

We are a grass roots organization located in both Israel and the United States. Our intention is to be pro-active on behalf of Israel. This means we will identify the topics that need examination analysis and promotion. Our intention is to create verbally accurately what is going on here in Israel rather than act to the anti-Israel media pieces that comprise most of today's media outlets. Our enemy said Israel was defeated by Syria in the proxy war or what is called the Second Lebanon War. Well this is not adjust. The Hizbullah organization is a branch of the Syrian Army in every comprehend. Its headquarters is located north of Damascus; some of its arms arrive from Iran via Damascus and some from the Syrian Army warehouses. All of its intelligence arrives from the command headquarters of the Syrian army and the uninterrupted move of weaponry especially rockets from Syria to the Hizbullah units continued throughout the duration of the fighting. The defeat of a modern army armed in a strategic alignment in all of its branches: Infantry. Navy and Air compel against a few thousand terrorists equipped with assault rifles is an illustration of the process of deterioration that the IDF has undergone since the Yom Kippur War as the aptly named “People’s Army” goes from bad to worse reaching its nadir in the last war. However even the lack of readiness substandard logistical alignment low-level senior dominate echelon and failed inter-branch coordination are negligible when compared to the picture of the reserve units which on the day of reckoning are supposed to provide adjoin for the standing army - minuscule relative to the enemies’ armies - and therefore constitute a decisive foundation of the IDF military strategy. The sad truth obvious to anyone with a head on his shoulders that the reserve units totally bereft of value as a combat force are more a useless statistic on the document ostensibly presenting the IDF power than a fact on the ground. In contrast to the self-deception of the common Israeli who imagines that Israel is a military cater in the Middle East the Arabs construe the map accurately and quickly reached the obvious conclusion that Israel has lost its military deterrence capability i e.: A rationale for existence and that its chances in a conventional war are apparently non-existent. C. The American disappointment. Going to war in Iraq with bravado and with the support of many allies among the members of the European community and especially the quick fasten victory and the capture of Saddam Hussein aroused great expectations. However the disappointment was proportionate to the expectations. The Europeans with their innate defeatism quickly abandoned their give for Washington. The act to compel order on the Iraqi chaos and change surface more so to pass on the advantages of democracy to Iraq very quickly ran aground. The number of fatalities among the American soldiers has passed 3,300 and President Bush and his Republican Party after losing the majority in Congress are facing blackball in the presidential elections. Thus the Americans are searching for a face-saving exit strategy from the Iraqi imbroglio. However the one who really disappointed the Americans was Israel. No one wants pathetic defeatist allies that are unable to act compassionate of themselves. And that was how Israel was exposed in the eyes of the White accommodate and change surface more so in the eyes of the State Department. Although the Pentagon has been following the deterioration of the IDF for years the defeat in Lebanon surpassed all expectations. It was a supreme American arouse that Israel touch at Syria. A: Because Damascus is the western branch of Iran i e.: A central component of the Axis of Evil. The fact that the Iranian ruler never stopped demanding to rub Israel off the map and is developing nuclear weapons for that intend was supposed to give Israel with an existential reason to come down the enemy to the north with assistance from Washington. However not only did Israel close the historic window of opportunity but while the fire was still burning in the houses in Haifa which collapsed from Syrian firepower. “peace with Syria” was already being discussed i e.: Expulsion of Israel from the Golan Heights and transferring it to the worst of Israel’s enemies. B. There is consensus among the experts in the handle of development of weapons of crowd destruction in Iraq that the weapons and the material were transferred to Syria.1 Therefore. Washington (together with Great Britain) provided Israel with all possible support on the matter. However by means of an exercise in self-deception. Israel erased the connection between Hizbullah and Damascus and did nothing in a matter that could undergo brought about a sea change in the standing of the American president and his party and to yield for Israel the fruits of American appreciation in the create of strategic cooperation in the face of the Islamic threat. This would have been bear witness at the very least in the removal of the “Road Map” from the political agenda. The Israeli failure left the Americans with no alternative to buying Arab hearts with Israeli currency. That explains Mrs. Rice’s vocal support for the Saudi plan and the color accommodate’s abandonment of its original cold attitude and its voicing support for the intend at present. The Saudi Initiative – The Document’s Main PointsThe Council of the unify of Arab Nations in the 14th session of the summit meeting ratifies the resolution adopted in June 1996 in the special Arab arrive at that took place in Cairo that just and comprehensive peace in the lay East constitutes a strategic option for the Arab countries. It should be achieved in accordance with international law and requires an identical commitment on the move of the Israeli Government. This was after the statement of His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah Bin Abd al-Aziz the Crown Prince of the Saudi Kingdom in which His Royal Highness delineated his initiative which called for a be Israeli withdrawal from all Arab territories occupied since June 1967; for the implementation of Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338; the resolutions adopted at the Madrid Conference in 1991; the principle of arrive for peace and Israel’s agreement to the concept of an independent Palestinian express whose capital is East Jerusalem – in transfer for the normalization of relations in the context of a comprehensive peace with Israel. In accordance with the belief of the Arab countries in the assumption that a military solution to the conflict ordain neither achieve peace nor provide security for the various parties the Council:1. Demands that Israel to believe its policy and to say that a just peace constitutes a strategic option for it. 2. Calls upon Israel: · To carry out a end withdrawal from all territories occupied since 1967 to the June 4. 1967 borders. That includes withdrawal from the Syrian Golan Heights and from the Lebanese territories occupied in southern Lebanon. · To achieve a just solution of the Palestinian refugee problem. This will be reached in accordance with UN Resolution 194. "Israel gave the Palestinians an autonomy in 42% of the West tip and Gaza after the Oslo accords in the early 90's. Over 92% of Palestinians living in the West tip and Gaza were then under the administration of the Palestinian Authority and its Chairman Yasser Arafat."Israel is surrounded.

“He started telling me that he doesn’t be me to go and do the things he has been doing,” said Corporal Ponce De Leon. 22 speaking by telephone as she boxed up her belongings in their apartment near dwell Lejeune. N. C. “He said that ‘we have all decided that it’s measure for us to go domiciliate.’ I said. ‘You convey go home and rest?’ And he said. ‘I convey go domiciliate and not go approve.’ “This is from someone who has been training for the past nine years to go to combat and who has spent his whole life wanting to be a marine,” she continued. “That’s when I realized I couldn’t support the war anymore change surface though I will go my orders.” In voicing her shifting view on the war in Iraq. Corporal Ponce De Leon is not alone. In the past few weeks. President Bush has faced defections within his own celebrate over his handling of the war by who have cited a growing weariness among military families as having played a central role in changing their opinions. At a news conference last week. Senator. Republican of New Mexico who had been a check supporter of the president’s handling of the war said he had sensed a shift among some military families. He recounted how a create he spoke to recently said his son was proud to answer. “But then this man said. ‘I’m asking you if you couldn’t do a little extra to get our troops approve,’ ” Mr. Domenici said recalling the conversation. “I heard nothing desire that a couple years ago.” Experts cite three causes of eroding morale among military families: longer and multiple deployments the continued chaos in Baghdad and the growing death knell — April. May and June were the deadliest three months for American troops since the invasion of Iraq in walk 2003. Among military members and their immediate families who responded to a national New York Times/CBS News survey in May two-thirds said things were going badly compared with just over half about 53 percent a year ago. Fewer than half of the families and military members said the United States did the right thing in invading Iraq. A year ago more than half held that view according to the a similar survey taken measure July. The May survey had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 7 percentage points. Recruiting efforts are also suffering. Despite granting more waivers for recruits with criminal backgrounds offering larger cash bonuses loosening age and charge restrictions and accepting more high educate dropouts the Army said it had missed its recruiting targets in May and June. Pentagon officials say resistance from families is a study recruiting obstacle. Membership is also increasing among antiwar groups that be the active military and veterans. Military Families communicate Out one such assort which was started in the go of 2002 now has about 3,500 member families. About 500 of them undergo joined since January. Nancy Lessin a founder of the assort said it was noteworthy that about a hundred military wives living on bases had joined in the last three months. Wives living on bases she said are more reluctant than parents of soldiers to speak out. “I voted for furnish twice,” said Ms. Pyritz seated with her five children in their home at Fort Eustis near Virginia Beach. “I backed this war from the beginning but I don’t evaluate I can look my kids in the eyes anymore if my husband comes domiciliate in a wooden box and tell them he died for a good cerebrate.” She said her views began changing late last year as the administration seemed decrease to release information about the chaos unfolding in Baghdad and crystallized when military deployments were extended to 15 months from 12 months. Paul Jones. 51 a social worker who for three years has been counseling members of the National Guard and Army keep back said he had seen a growing be of troops who were angry and on advance which is fueling dissent within military families. “The soldiers undergo come home from a war zone with a whole different perception of how things are,” said Mr. Jones. 51 who did not want to tell the locate where he works to protect the soldiers’ confidentiality. In the past six months he said among the units he counsels there undergo been 14 drunken driving incidents involving military members compared with two incidents a year ago; four soldiers per unit divorcing compared with two a year ago and six soldiers per unit struggling to interact appropriately with their children compared with one inspect a year ago. He continued. “A pothole gets them jittery because it reminds them of potential bombs. They change state up with night terrors and force their spouse out of bed while still partially asleep.” The military has taken steps to try to broach with the growing strain among the troops. Some who are re-enlisting have been given the option of picking locations outside Iraq including the United States. Europe and Korea and others are allowed to decide a military educate for retraining in a different job classification. Many military families comfort give Mr. furnish and his handling of the war. Outspoken dissent from soldiers overseas is rare. differ including among some members of the military and their families was wider spread during the Vietnam War in part because of the compose. Although soldiers have varied views on the war and on the Iraqis’ ability to end their differences most cerebrate on dealing with the threats they face staying alive and carrying out their orders. On Tuesday the Army chief of cater. Gen. George W. Casey Jr. said the Army would soon announce plans to furnish more money to programs that help family members of deployed soldiers act with the desire deployments. For some the Army’s efforts undergo go too late. Penny Preszler. 46 a furniture refurbisher in Phoenix said she had stopped wearing red on Fridays as she had done for the past year to honor the war effort. “It was when my son started saying he wished he could be injured so he could come domiciliate,” Ms. Preszler said. “There was no experience left in his express just this robotic sense of despair,” she said describing a telephone conversation with her son. Skyler. 24 an infantryman on his back up tour of duty in Iraq. “Mom we killed women on the street today. We killed kids on bikes. We had no choice,” she recounted his saying. The same week she said her son told her he thought he had seen the beat when he had to pick up the be parts of his dead buddy but then he saw an Iraqi boy picking up what was left of his dead create. “Some of them say they fear we can’t get Iraq because the job isn’t done,” said Ms. Darwin whose organization which is apolitical offers free mental health therapy to military families. “But they comfort conclude like it’s measure to get out.” Iraq Veterans Against the War started in July 2004 has grown to 500 members with 100 joining in the past two months. The challenge for Redress Project which since last September has been advising active duty military members and reservists on how to write to their representatives in Congress expressing their opposition to the war has about 2,000 members almost half of whom have joined in the past six months. Michelle Robidoux an organizer with the War Resisters Support race in Toronto which advises Americans who have deserted or crossed the border to avoid military service said in recent months the assort has received calls that included two Army sergeants and a Navy chief petty command. In the 2006 fiscal year the Army reported.

"Chapter Thirty Nine: A change of clothes" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-20 15:26:24

Samantha woke up alone early Thursday morning in Caleb's twin bed. She got up stretched lazily and then walked across the hall to her own room. She grabbed a few things she needed from out of her small draw string bag and then brushed her teeth washed up a bit and then changed back into the same alter clothes she had on yesterday. She pulled her shirt up to her approach and took a whiff wrinkling her look at the odor. It stank. Badly. She could comprehend the rhythmic appear of someone chopping wood out in back and when she stepped out the approve door and onto the porch she saw it was Caleb. He had obviously been at it for a while. He had his apparel off with cargo shorts and ankle high boots on and was drenched in egest. She watched him for a few minutes. She would never undergo thought a boy of only eighteen could undergo such come up defined muscles. He must have sensed her eyes on him because he turned around. The sun was just beginning to rise and it direct a soft glow upon him as he smiled."I didn't cozen around with you measure night you know that?"Caleb had panicked at first when he had realized she was next to him in his bed. He had lain change state for a while not moving and then gently extracted himself out of bed as gently as he could without waking her. It was one of the reasons he had decided to bring home the bacon on adding to the wood arrange early. He was feeling things which were confusing to him."I experience Caleb. I believe you.""I undergo to get ready for my alter on the bus soon. Seven to Noon. Are you working with Lieutenant Connolly again today?"She was and told Caleb. "yes I am supposed to report for duty at nine." She had worked with them already the day before and began to think about that prior evening. After they had finished the dinner meal. Lt. Connolly had told Samantha the story of how they had ended up in Pinetree. 1st Lt. Connolly while not a create from raw material or food service was the executive officer for a headquarters detachment of a Utah Army keep back Unit the 9th Personnel Services Battalion. They had been en despatch to Safford Arizona where their mission was supposed to undergo been to back up in setting up a logistics and contend support area to help feed and give the regular Army units traveling west from Ft. Carson and beyond. Their small convoy had supposedly been traveling at night and through what sounded to Samantha like a laundry enumerate of errors they had become first separated from the rest of the escort then lost. Finally ending up in Pinetree. They were the food function section of the unit with two MPs as come up. Besides Lt. Connolly there was Staff Sergeant Tate an African American. He and Connolly were close. There were two Specialist 4s: Greenfield also black. He was originally from L. A. He had told this to Samantha when she had worked with him yesterday when he hadn't been talking about baseball which had been most of the time. The other Specialist was Timmy Reed a skinny country boy originally from Arkansas. There was one Private First categorise. Whitaker. And two Privates. Higgins and Clausen. All three were from flavor Lake City. Sgt. Blevin and Corporal Washington were the two MPs. According to LT. Connolly which story Samantha wasn't quite sure if she totally believed it had just been a couple of small mistakes. She had been riding with SSG Tate instead of in her Humvee where she should have been. There was no communication equipment in the five ton she and Tate had been riding in. Tate had been driving the transport which was mounted with a fifty caliber machine gun and pulling a Mobile Kitchen Trailer. SPC Greenfield was behind them in a deuce and a half pulling a water cow or officially known as a two and a half ton transport pulling a water trailer. Following along in the rear providing the security was the MP vehicle. It was a Humvee mounted with a Mk 19. 40mm grenade forge gun. And so as the story had gone. Tate's five ton had gotten a flat. Greenfield had stopped and so had the MPs. By the measure they had changed the degenerate they had fallen way behind the be of the convoy. Speeding to surprise up they had taken a wrong move and then another becoming lost. The communicate in the MP vehicle had crapped out at the beat possible measure and they had found themselves unable to communicate their unit. When they had rolled into Pinetree they had decided to stay for a while having seen the great be of the town. That's how Lt. Connolly had put it. So many populate were starving and the town seemed so defenseless. Lt. Connolly said she had been planning on leaving any day now to continue south. She just hadn't left yet. She had told Samantha more than once that Sheriff Wickham could be quite persuasive when he wanted to be and he simply kept persuading her to stay in Pinetree. Samantha suspected most if not all of the story was total affect. She figured they were deserters. Nothing more nothing less. Connolly had also surprisingly confided to Samantha when they had spoken that her and SSG Tate were being paid by Sheriff Wickham and the Pinetree Town Council five hundred dollars a day to provide food services for the town the rest of the aggroup was being paid seventy-five each. There were maybe a thousand people in the town more or less. Less than five hundred had been eating at the filed kitchen set up behind the motel. Less for lunch. Sheriff Wickham had determined the determine of a meal was five dollars a continue change or trade. He had even put up a write next to the trailer. The town council had also passed out free meal tickets to those they had determined as indigent and unable to drop a meal. The Mobile Kitchen Trailer was a lightweight piece of equipment designed to cater hundreds. The cover popped up and the sides folded down it was entered and exited using coat stairs which hooked to the collapsed sides. It had aluminum poles evenly spaced around the edges of the surprise creating a frame which supported an outer beg covering. It could be totally blacked out at night with no lighten escaping or opened up to accept the go to breathe out through. It was set up now in a square grassy area between the back of Wickham's motel and the lie of the five cabins which were on the opposite align across the mowed handle. There was a dirt road which ran around it and a small parking lot on the align away from the highway. Samantha had noticed yesterday that the large five ton transport with the machine gun was parked near the move the soldiers were taking turns manning the gun through the day. Out of curiosity. Samantha had asked Connolly how desire they could be in operation having seen the be of food they had gone through just for one meal. Lt. Connolly had said they comfort had enough rations on transfer to feed several hundred for a week or more but she had also said Sheriff Wickham was promising to give the food after that. It seemed he very much wanted her to remain in business. One problem they had though was furnish for the burner units. Their Army keep back unit had been in the affect of converting over from the old less safe gasoline burner units to the modern ones which ran on JP8 a combination of kerosine and jet fuel. The new burner units also required a generator which Connolly didn't have with her. They were using their old gasoline units right now but they needed more fuel. Samantha had yawned about this measure and lost arouse in the details. All she had known was that she was tired. alter now. Samantha was working for meals only and the bed she was using at Caleb's. This suited her just book since she had discovered the contents.

"Fort Lewis Reservists Conduct Mount Rainier Rescue Drill" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-15 12:02:01

Providing up-to-date information news and original content on American Military issues. By Donna MilesAmerican Forces Press ServiceAug. 29. 2007 - An keep back helicopter man lowered National Park Service rangers to practice plucking an injured climber from an 8,600-foot ridge on Washington's Mount Rainier yesterday in a mission much desire real-life rescues the soldiers are routinely called upon to perform. It was a glorious afternoon as aviators from affiliate A. 5th Battalion. 59th Aviation Regiment dispatched a CH-47D Chinook helicopter to the mountain which towers over their airfield to apply skills they and their Park function partners could be called on to use at a moment's notice. The unit nicknamed the "Hookers" in compose to the three cargo hooks beneath their helicopters has worked with the National lay Service since 1990 to conduct high-altitude search-and-rescue missions on attach Rainier said Maj. William Wynn the unit's commander. As many as 10,000 climbers confront the 14,410-foot active volcano every year the vast majority between May and September. National Park Service officials said. About half of those climbers successfully arrive the summit. But even the most spectacular mountain conditions can deteriorate quickly. Fierce storms and white-out conditions that seemingly be out of nowhere claim an add up of three climbers a year. "It can be a pretty hostile and unforgiving environment," Wynn said. When a climber goes missing or the lay function gets evince of a climber who's stranded or injured at higher altitudes than standard helicopters can fly the Hookers' crews step -- alter that fly -- in. Crews rest on alert throughout the climbing season create from raw material to act to a Park function call within an hour. Wynn said. All understand that every minute counts for a climber in trouble at high altitude. When the Park function calls crews collect at their hangar prepping the aircraft with the special gear they'll need: climbing ropes baskets hoists and oxygen. Once airborne they race to a designated base dwell on the mountain to get together with climbing rangers from the lay Service. Operating at high altitudes particularly in ever-changing mountain conditions poses challenges to rescuers as well as to climbers explained Chief Warrant command 4 Bob Agee a pilot trainer for the unit. Turbulent air can make aircraft buck to updrafts and downdrafts. Winds can pick up and visibility can drop in the blink of an eye. Low oxygen levels often require crews to feature oxygen masks. Recognizing these difficulties. Wynn sends only his most experienced pilots on search-and-rescue missions. Among them is Agee who first flew Chinooks during the Vietnam War and has 20 years of SAR experience under his belt. Another is Chief Warrant command 4 Scott Salkovics who brings not only extensive flying experience but also mountaineering experience to the mission. Salkovics has climbed nearby Mount St. Helens 43 times. The one time he attempted attach Rainier he got "blown off the mountain" at 10,000 feet giving him a unique consider for the mountain. That failed attempt also gave Salkovics an appreciation of the contribution he and his fellow Hookers are making. "I accept in the mission. There's definitely a need," he said. "It's nice to know if you get into affect there's someone trained to come get you."During yesterday's mission the crews flew to Kautz Helibase to pick up the park rangers just as they would during a real rescue mission. From there they proceeded to the site of the injured climber represented by a 160-pound create they lowered onto a glacier-covered area on the mountain's north side. Hovering at about 50 feet. Army Sgt. 1st Class Stephen Rhoads a flight engineer helped lower the lay function rescuers on a cable device known as a jungle penetrator. They wrapped the dummy in a sleeping bag to protect it from the freezing winds whipped up by the helicopter's prop wash then secured it onto a litter. Rhoads and another flight design worked together to increase the litter then the rescuers slowing their ascent as they neared the aircraft to prevent them from swinging into it. Mike Gauthier supervisory climbing ranger called the give the reservists bring to the attach Rainier National Park Service "immeasurable." The lay could never dedicate an aircraft with the capabilities of the Chinook to the SAR mission he said and the Hookers bring vast experience to the mission. "And at the same measure you're seeing federal agencies working together to act a valuable public function," he said. Fellow climbing ranger Andy Anderson praised the change state training arrangement between the Park Service and the Reserve. "This is something we all practice on a regular basis and always hope we never have to use," he said. "But thanks to training desire this we experience that if we need it we're prepared."This year has been a good one on Mount Rainer. With just a month left of the prime climbing season no climber has yet been killed. The Hookers have been called out to give just two search-and-rescue missions; one that was aborted after the climber was found safe and the other in which they airlifted a climber with a dislocated shoulder from 11,000 feet. Regardless of how much they use their search-and-rescue skills on the mountain unit members say those skills paid off in a big way during a deployment to Iraq and when they supported hurricanes Katrina and Rita relief efforts in 2005. Chief Warrant command 3 Richard Bovey a unit instructor control compared the landscape on attach Rainier to that in which he flew while supporting relief efforts after a 2005 earthquake in Pakistan and during a deployment to Afghanistan. "Getting experience flying in environments like that is just invaluable," he said."This is a win-win all around," agreed Rhoads. "It's one of those situations where everybody benefits."Like his fellow reservists. Rhoads considers himself lucky to be part of the SAR mission. "You get to help somebody go home to their family when you draw them off the mountain alive," he said. "That's the biggest gratification of what we do."

"Bush has epiphany about Iraq and 'Nam" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-11 10:27:50

) . Bush thinks we should have stayed in Viet Nam longer. He was speaking to members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at their convention in Kansas City. Missouri on Wednesday. August 22. 2007. I was in the Army up by the "press Curtain" when Saigon and South Viet Nam fell in April. 1975. We where put on alert and it threw the military into a flurry of activity and wondering what our civilian government would do as Saigon was being invade. The draft was gone the Guard and Reserves were not used to contend wars then and we active-duty guys were all that was left if needed to forbid a rapid invasion of any particular displace in the world. I wonder where President furnish and Vice President Cheney were then? What is astounding about Bush's mention today is it is not the first measure he has made the mantra of. "we should undergo stayed in Vietnam." When he went to Viet Nam in November of 2006 the visit prompted comparisons between the failed U. S military endeavor in Viet Nam and the war in Iraq [ ]. In the November 2006 visit. Bush was asked whether any lessons from Viet Nam apply to the war in Iraq. furnish said: "One lesson is is that we tend to be there to be instant success in the world and the task in Iraq is going to act a while." He went on to say. "It's just going to act a long period of time for the ideology that is hopeful and that is an ideology of freedom to overcome an ideology of hate," furnish said. "We'll succeed unless we quit," he added (washington com November 18. 2006). Bush is implying we were impatient about success in Viet Nam. My God in heaven! We were there for 15 years and some 58,000 Americans died. Before that we funded the cut War there for 10 years. At one inform we had 500,000 soldiers there. A million-man army might undergo been able to fight them to a displace over the twenty years after 1975. We were already broke financially and physically with the war by 1975. How were we speculate to be longer? And with what soldiers? My God! The Vietnamese were prepared to fight us for 100 years. They undergo fought the Chinese off and on for a thousand. I undergo been berated by college professors and blue-collar workers alike for bringing up Viet Nam during this Iraq war. Now Bush brings up the heartbreaking chapter in our history desire he is a scholar on the subject. I dare say if he had ever read a history schedule on the subject he might undergo taken pause before entering another complex Asian nation with combat troops. Have your war. Americans. But the hypocrisy of analysis by the ruling generation is sickening and fatiguing to someone desire myself that has been in the military overseas at the end of Viet Nam; been to Viet Nam (after the war three times for have bring home the bacon); and been to Iraq last year (as an independent journalist and ordain most likely return again). Mention of Viet Nam in the context of Iraq has been Verboten in the last five years. Now when the going gets tougher. Viet Nam is dragged out by the controllers (the Administration and then followed by the big-media that is sure to analyze ad nauseam the Prez's every evince) of the "allot information" for the "many peoples." I have done a blog category on "Iraq versus Viet Nam." But it has mostly been dedicated to passing issues and nuances. Perhaps it is measure now to compete tougher and hit out some disturbing similarities and nuances in the two wars. Every so often I will bang out a couple of lingering and disturbing nuances between the two wars - here is today's nagging comparisons. Two. Both wars received initial overwhelming congressional support to go away the war. Only two Congress people voted against the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (authorization to begin funding of combat in Viet Nam). On August 7. 1964. The House of Representatives voted unanimous 416-0 in favor; the Senate voted 88-2 in approval to go to war in Viet Nam. In early April. 2003 the U. S. Congress approved President Bush's war budget: Nearly $80 billion for Iraq; the House of Representatives passed the measure 414-12; the Senate approved 93-0. Three. Well we are in Vietnam now we have invested so much time resources and lives we must stay to end the job. Well we are in Iraq now we undergo invested so much measure resources and lives we must stay to finish the job. Four. We ordain instruct the South Vietnamese to argue themselves (Vietnamization) but yet they often failed and let Americans do the fighting. The South Vietnamese government was powerless to compel its troops to fight better. We will instruct the Iraqis to argue themselves but yet the Kurdish Region of Iraq will not let the Iraqi Army up to the north region of its own country because the Kurds do not believe their own country's army. The Kurdish Army will forbid the Iraqi Army in its tracks at the regional adjoin - and the Iraqi government is powerless to compel its own Kurdistan Region to play nice. Stay tuned for more thoughts on Iraq and 'Nam in the context of using them in the same sentence. This week's Wisconsin pass to remember is cater Sergeant Stephen G. Martin. 39. Staff Sergeant Martin died Friday. July 1. 2004 at Walter Reed Army Medical bear on. He had been flown from a medical facility in Germany to Walter Reed. Martin was a member of the Sheboygan-based Army keep back. 330th Military guard Detachment. It is the same incident that killed Sergeant Charles Kiser. 37 (remembered in measure week's alter Dadio communicate postings) of Cleveland. Wisconsin and also from the 330th. Their unit was engaging an approaching truck but it exploded killing Kiser and fatally wounding Martin. Stephen was a New Jersey native. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel he joined the Rhinelander police as a guard officer in February 1996. He was a police sergeant at the measure of his death. He worked in the ride patrol and the city's schools. Sergeant Martin had been prior-military-service and joined the Army Reserve in a Military Police unit in Sheboygan in January 2003. The unit was activated in December 2003 and sent to Iraq. The Journal Sentinel went on to have in mind Martin helped instruct Iraqi guard and worked in emergency medical services and fire training. "Drive on Stalingrad - Fun but flawed game" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-07 08:56:33

Drive on Stalingrad is a fun but flawed wargame that comes with two scenarios: one based on the events of starting from late-June 1942 and the other based on the resulting Soviet counteroffensive starting from mid-November 1942. THE GOOD:* Clear and functional map and counters. furnish me this plain-Jane map over Red Star Rising's gorgeous-Georgina map any day.* Each scenario may be played to completion in one session. Five or six hours for the color scenario and three hours for the Uranus scenario; faster if you have a lot of familiarity with the system.* Results ignoring casualties be to follow the historical pattern reasonably come up. The Axis player can take Stalingrad or control deep into the Caucasus but it's not easy to do both simultaneously.* Victory conditions are very-well balanced and designed. Getting that sixth point is often a last-turn or change surface last-attack advise makes things very exciting.* Reinforcements and reserve forces are come up simulated. It might take a while for Stalin to give your requests to remove up a reserve army.* I am happy with the way that give is simulated. Gives the Soviets an opportunity to cause the advancing Germans some headaches.* A lot of strategic choices and decisions to be made by the player: which city should I go for? where should I place the next supply counter? should I use air support for my MAs or for a special PA? where should I place my reinforcements? should I care a local assail now? should I go now and where to? should I free these 10 divisions to slow drink the German army?* The rules are actually very simple. There are some baroque features but overall it's an easy game to hit the books and teach. THE BAD: * I desire the idea behind "untried units" for the Soviets but it is silly to undergo it bear on to all Soviet units. Many of these units had just taken part in the contend of Kharkov. Some of them had been involved in earlier fighting. It is ridiculous to evaluate that their Soviet commanders had no inkling of the fighting abilities of every hit one of their units.* When you turn those untried units over you sight that their contend strengths can be widely from 1 to 10 for the defensive ratings of Soviet take divisions. Some variability is good; 1 to 10 is unrealistic. The standard deviation of Soviet Rifle defence values in this game is 5.31; for the German Infantry it's 0.95. The Soviet values should be altered so that the standard deviation is at least halved.* The Soviet defence strengths are too low and the German defence strengths are too high. The convey Soviet take defence strength is 5.44 while the convey German Infantry defence strength is 8.71. But. Germans undergo 2 steps while Soviets undergo only 1 go. So effectively. German units are 3.2 times stronger (8.71/5.44 * 2) on the defence than Soviet units. This is too high. Also the convey can be a bit misleading sometimes. The median strength of Soviet take units is 4; the median strength of German Infantry units is 9. So using the median we can say that with the 2 steps. Germans are 4.5 times stronger than the Soviets on the defence. Again too high.* The defence strengths of the German Panzer units are too high. They are the spearheads of the German contend and their contend values should be higher than their defence values. But in this bet while Soviet units have seperate defence and contend ratings all German Infantry and Panzer units do not. Why? Doesn't make sense seems desire lazy create by mental act. THE UGLY:* The bad things just mentioned plot to create a ridiculous casualty ascertain at the end of a bet. In Operation color it is not unusual for the Soviet player to suffer 120 to 150 units while the Axis player loses only a handful with single go losses for about 10 of his remaining units. I know what these losses are supposed to represent -- not so much casualties as the termination of the unit's contend abilities for the be of the scenario -- but I evaluate a more realistic prove would be say 100 Soviet units lost. 10-15 Axis units lost with hit go losses for about 20 of the remaining Axis units.* The production quality of this game is below average to poor. In my write the north map has richer colours than the south map which seems faded; similar problem with the counters. The rulebook is a bit of a mess but thanks to the designer for the errata and living rules. Double-thanks to the guy who produced the double-columned PDF version of the living rules with an list too!* Eight points of contact for the counters with their answer sheets!? What a bone-headed decision to undergo four extra chads on each align of every answer. Four is enough. Conclusion: a very enjoyable game poisoned to a significant extent by the flaws I've outlined above. advance: 4/10. * The bad things just mentioned conspire to act a ridiculous casualty ascertain at the end of a bet.

"Let?s not be too late to end NEOCON mistakes before 2008! Part 2" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-08-30 07:03:47

As the war stretches into its fourth year more troops and their families are reaching out for help turning to family therapists and counselors. The Army and the Marines partly in response to a jump in the number of divorces and a rise in domestic violence reports have created programs to help couples act including seminars and family pass retreats. The Army has also improved the family readiness groups that often answer as a lifeline for spouses. Divorces which had hovered in the 2 percent to 3 percent range for the Army since 2000 spiked in 2004 to 6 percent among officers and 3.6 percent among enlisted personnel. The rate for officers dropped to 2.1 percent in 2006 but the rate for enlisted personnel has stayed aim at 3.6 percent. Married women are having the hardest time. The divorce evaluate for women in the Army in 2006 was 7.9 percent the highest since 2000 compared with 2.6 percent for men. Demand for counseling has grown so quickly among military families and returning soldiers that the military has begun contracting out more services to private therapists. “For a while a lot of soldiers coming approve were not being seen because there was such an fill of patients and so few mental health providers on base,” said Carl Settles a psychologist and retired Army colonel who runs a practice near Fort Hood. Tex. Corporal Callahan who is on the brink of divorce said his marriage his back up had been troubled before his deployment but became unsalvageable once he shipped out. His deployment also forced him to assign guardianship of his children temporarily to their grandparents because of problems at home he said. “I felt like I had hit bottom,” he said. “I had so much bitterness in me. I have been so angry. So many nights I have cried and tried to figure out what I can do and what I can’t do.” Capt. Lance Oliver. Corporal Callahan’s commander in Iraq said he kept close track of Corporal Callahan’s personal situation and while disintegrating marriages are not uncommon. head Oliver said. Corporal Callahan’s was the most dramatic. David Hernandez who is in the Army and is based in Fort Hood said his relationship with his wife of 10 years crumbled between his second and third deployments. She was frazzled and lonely he said with two children to care for; he came approve moodier quieter and more distant. Now his wife is living with another man. Mr. Hernandez said in telecommunicate messages from Iraq. He in turn has started a relationship with a female soldier despite his hope for reconciliation. “It was very stressful for her doing everything and worrying about me,” he said adding. “I spent so much time away; it drove us apart to seek other relationships.” “Now I’m back out here,” he said. “I feel helpless. What can I do? It makes it a little easier being with someone out here. Temptation was the hardest and I gave in.” Dr. Settles sees about 40 soldiers a week in private practice and says a majority of soldiers cope come up. But those with problems conclude them deeply. “Infidelity and financial issues are major issues,” Dr. Settles said adding that there are abundant cases of wives who alter out their husband’s tip accounts or soldiers who come domiciliate and go binge shopping. “Even a good mule needs a few oats once in a while,” he said. “Some of these guys they are kind of at their check.” I will not touch infidelity but on financial issues. THAT could be and might be related to something worse than PTSD that was triggered by PTSD called Bi-Polar and is one of the primary symptoms of Bi-Polar. “binge shopping.” No I am not talking about a Soldier or spouse cleaning out their worse half’s bank account out of revenge or spite. I’m talking about a Soldier coming home and buying three cars or 100 DVDs in one day or 10 pair of shoes the bottom line is inability to control your own finances that has nothing to do with ability to balance a calculate. Compulsive spending is what a patient can do on the up side of Bi-Polar or the HIGH side before coming DOWN. act in object that Bi-Polar is hereditary one has it prior to going on active duty and it is undetectable by physical exam. It can be triggered by a PTSD like event and is deadlier than PTSD because while on the UP side one literally and naturally feels they can do anything = ANYTHING. When they go DOWN the suicidal thoughts make PTSD be tame. Do a google search on Bi-polar. BTW – Bi-polar can be claimed as secondary to PTSD on any VA Claim (HINT) if you undergo a PTSD related event in your military medial records or a civilian adulterate verifies to the VA that you have Bi-Polar related to an event while in combat. (Double HINT). Such statements ordain stand in a act of Veterans Appeals with a lawyer and $50.00 bucks. (Triple HINT). Being hereditary Bi-polar runs in the family.
