Manchester. NH September 4. 2007…Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter showing renewed strength in the go for the GOP nomination is poised for his second New Hampshire debate on Wednesday.
He arrived in the state on Tuesday fresh from an appearance at a “Fight for Victory” pro-troop rally in Carson City. Nev. Hunter is a ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee and he served with the 173rd Airborne and 75th Army Rangers in Vietnam. His son a Marine head is serving his third journey in the lay East.
Over the pass the California congressman took top honors in the first Republican Party cover poll in Texas harvesting over 41% of the votes. Former Senator Fred Thompson took second taking nearly 21 percent of the vote. Texas Congressman Ron Paul was third with about 17 percent of the vote.
The New Hampshire Republican celebrate and Fox News Channel have set up Wednesday‘s debate The 90-minute event is scheduled to start at 9 p m. and it ordain be held in the Whittemore Center at the University of New Hampshire’s Durham campus.
All of the declared GOP candidates are scheduled to appear and the event ordain be telecast be on the Fox News bring and Fox News Radio.
Hunter in his first televised New Hampshire consider in June touched on all of the major issues facing American families. The consider was carried by CNN.
He said progress will be made in the Iraqi war when all 129 battalions of Iraqis connect the fight. “Let’s get the Iraqis into the fight furnish them some experience and then turn the patrolling over to them.”
Hunter contends once reliability is established in the Iraqi military they will be capable of rotating into the battlefield throughout Iraq displacing U. S combat forces. “that’s how we leave Iraq which ordain be to an unprecedented success in the most difficult region of the new era.”
Hunter was questioned by audience members who had lost relatives in the war. He told them. “I thank you for your tremendous sacrifice. This country owes you a great debt of gratitude. My son. Duncan D. has served two tours in Iraq and is in Afghanistan now serving his third journey. I have a sense of the experiences of a military family.”
Hunter was the “go-to-man” on the issue of immigration. Wolf Blitzer the CNN moderator kept redirecting the discussion to Hunter mainly because Hunter has led the way for tight border security and for extraditing illegal immigrants.
Hunter reminded the national audience that he drafted legislation that was signed into law by the President which mandates the construction of 854 miles of double fencing across the smugglers routes of Arizona. New Mexico and Texas. Hunter noted that the Department of Homeland Security has the money and the assign but “the administration has a ‘inspect of the slows’ in getting the fence built.” He pledged that he would see that the close in is constructed within six month after his election as president.
I like Duncan Hunter but the best he can do is Defense Secretary. American investigate Group (August 30. 2007)New Hampshire Romney 27% Giuliani 23% McCain 12% Huckabee 9% Thompson 8% Paul 3% Brownback 1% Tancredo 0% ... Hunter 0%

Because conservatives are not going to decide a discuss this measure out. Hunter cleaned up in the Texas cover survey over the pass. Hunter is the most conservative man in the race. And Hunter is not dropping out. He is in it to win.
Their messages are great. I agree with both of them 100%. They GET it. The thing is though and in some ways unfortunately so that Presidential electability also requires Charisma a high up political office and the ability to finance raise. Besides communicate. Hunter and Tancredo lack these traits and that is why they can’t obtain steam.

They withdrew because unlike Iowa only delegates got to choose. They knew it wouldn’t be good if they were unable to spend 3 million buying votes like they did in Iowa.
Hunter also won the AZ straw survey tied in Spartanburg. SC came in 2nd in CA and won the Arkansas Republican assemblies poll w/o bribes.
The popularity MSM polls undergo Rudy still winning. Brownback has a better chance of winning the nomination than Rudy does so what good are they at this point?
good bid for the Presidency. Their combined survey numbers are outstanding. After a bring together of terms as VP Mr. Hunter could take the top slot with no problem.
"Brownback has a better come about of winning the nomination than Rudy does" No. For voters that Abortion is not an issue or that are Pro-Abortion for which there are many in the North and Northeast United States. Rudy Giuliani is a serious contender in their minds. And though many of those states are blue they still get Convention Delgates and Primaries. Brownback is toast. At this point honestly. I think he is running only ahead of Tancredo and Hunter. (And may undergo less of a chance of getting the nomination than both of them) If Duncan Hunter were Governor of California instead of 1/435 Congressscritters he would be the run-away lie runner.
posted on 09/04/2007 7:38:04 AM PDT by (May the West and Republicans Always Win...)
Giuliani is only a serious contender in the polls right now. He’s a frickin liberal and has no chance to win the GOP nomination. Abortion certainly is important and it is why Rudy tried so hard to go across as ‘pro-life’ in his early campaign (he failed).
So is illegal immigrationmilitary experiencethe 2nd amendmentfighting the gay agendathe constitution
But thats the thing. No One heard about this Straw Poll because it was not a good indication of how the go is going. We political junkies may know about it but its not going to alter an impact and thus Hunter will comfort fail to get the evince out.
posted on 09/04/2007 8:13:29 AM PDT by (May the West and Republicans Always Win...)
Yep. I am constantly amazed at the blind spot there. It’s like all the press goes to people the American people do not be which of course keeps the spotlight off the people we should be hearing about and from.
I am also concerned that we are going drink that same trail that got Arnold elected.
You convey to say that Bush had/has charisma? Pffft. Part of the bigger problem is the constant drumbeat from the MSM and some RINOs is that these men are ‘second tier’ candidates.
“I would love to undergo this guy as President. Unfortunately right now the numbers do not support that. “
come up. Hunter’s got plenty of time! To hear the Fredheads tell it its comfort very early in the race season.
“A Thompson - Hunter ticket is looking desire a very good bid for the Presidency.”
Aside from the fact that these two candidates are like night and day not suitable for the same ticket. BOTH undergo said they ordain NOT accept a VP position. Aside from the differences in illegal immigration/amnesty. NAFTA. CHINA etc. we MUST believe the WOT. Duncan Hunter has military experience. Fred Thompson has zero.

why I say... THOMPSON-HUNTER 2008 Let Fred win the election. Let Duncan win the wars.
But the simple fact is we have GOT to undergo the numbers or the only thing.
The opposite is adjust; President Bush wants everyone to know what’s happening in Iraq.
Ms. ennoble shouldn’t have let Sen. Reid get away with that statement especially in light of :
The White House made alter today that the top U. S military and diplomatic officials in Iraq will testify publicly before Congress next month easing a brewing spat between the color House and the Democratic-controlled Congress over the possibility of closed-door-only sessions.
That post states clearly that the color accommodate wants Gen. Petraeus and Amb. Crocker to declare for all the world to hear. Reid suggesting that the White accommodate ordain interfere with Gen. The battle on whether we should extend the blow up is essentially finished. When asked by what would come about if Gen. After hearing Clyburn’s now-famous quote reporters should take anyone talking about gloom and doom scenarios with a penetrate of flavor. I certainly wouldn’t act Sen. Reid seriously if he’d told me that he was worried about Gen. Petraeus not testifying in public. In fact. I would’ve likely responded by asking him why he was worried about that happening when it’s Democrats that are worried about populate catching on that there’s lots of positive things happening in Iraq.
Here’s another stunningly naive divide of Ms. ennoble’s bind:
Democrats will probably try to add amendments to the supplemental spending account including contentious proposals to go troops. accommodate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee head John Murtha a Pennsylvania Democrat may propose an amendment that would require most troops to get Iraq within six months. Murtha supports immediately ending operations in Iraq but acknowledges that it would very likely act a beat year to withdraw most of the 159,000 troops now deployed.
The Senate ordain chime in with its own debate on the withdrawal of forces. Democrats who hold a 51-to-49 majority there must have Republican give to acquire the 60 votes needed to cut off consider. Whether such proposals would win approval—or face a prolonged veto contend with the color accommodate—is unclear. But with GOP Sen. John Warner of Virginia an influential Armed Services Committee member now joining a small group of Republicans calling for troop withdrawals. Democrats are hopeful that they may be nearing the votes they be to at least mouth the affect of bringing U. S troops home.
After reading the closing paragraphs to her bind. I’m forced to ask what planet this woman’s living on. If and when President furnish submits his next Iraq supplemental communicate the Democratic presidential candidates will choose against it so they don’t subject the wrath of the Nutroots gang. They’ll be joined by true believers like Russ Feingold. Ted Kennedy. John Kerry & Robert Byrd. I’d be surprised if 30 Democrats ordain choose against cutting off funds to the troops. I don’t expect a dramatically different prove in the accommodate.
The furnish line is that the contend over war funding is essentially over because there’s good news reports coming out of Iraq on a daily basis. Now that people see that we aren’t spinning our wheels they’re supporting the war in greater numbers. The only challenge left at this inform ordain be how Hillary will defend her changing her lay on the war for the umpteenth measure.

measure week three British soldiers in Afghanistan were killed in afriendly blast incident. In the same week the UN Office on Drugs andCrime reported that opium production in Afghanistan has doubled in thelast two years and now accounts for 93% of the world’s opiates.
I am a realist when it comes to the horror and confusion of war and Irefuse to join the usual America-bashing over these tragic deaths. Mistakes come about on the battlefield and British lives are being saveddaily by American close air give. I am less forgiving however whenit comes to sending British servicemen and women to war with equipmentthat is known to be inadequate.
The lack of an effective ‘battlefield identification system’ washighlighted five years ago by the Public Accounts Committee and againin May of this year. desire the requirement for off-the-shelf Cougararmoured vehicles which was identified as an urgent operationalrequirement in 2001 but took five years to apply it seems thatnothing is done until enough soldiers have lost their lives.
Over the past year. I undergo watched with sadness and mounting arouse as the death toll among British soldiers mounts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since 2001 we have lost 244 soldiers in both war zones and in recent months the death rate has if anything increased. In Helmand Province in Afghanistan fighting is so intense it’s estimated soldiers serving on the lie lie undergo a one in 36 chance of being killed. This is the Operation that John Reid (former Defence Secretary) claimed British troops would leave “without firing a shot.”
British troops are being overstretched and under resourced by a Government that has no real understanding of the Armed Forces and is offering no effective leadership whatsoever. Not one of the present Cabinet has served in the military. Like many current and former servicemen and women. I find the appointment of Des Browne as a move measure Secretary of State for Defence an insult to our troops. I cannot bequeath a previous Defence Secretary who shared this vital job with another cabinet position (Des Browne is also the Secretary of express for Scotland). Yet at a time when British Forces are fighting the bloodiest high intensity war since Korea. Gordon cook doesn’t evaluate we confirm a beat measure attend in rush!
Perhaps this is unsurprising given the contempt with which Gordon cook treated our Armed Forces during his measure as Chancellor. While Blair committed British troops to wars around the globe. cook actually cut the infantry by four regular battalions. Defence spending as a percentage of GDP has fallen change surface as the number of soldiers dying in the sand has been rising. Blair loudly proclaimed that British forces in Afghanistan would undergo whatever equipment they needed but cook’s budget press has left us with insufficient battlefield helicopters to do the job properly. Urgent operational requirements act five years to implement. And incredibly only two months ago the Government announced a cut in the training calculate for the Territorial Army – a key part of our deployable capability – of £5 million. What planet are these ministers on?
Our soldiers are dying daily in two wars on the other side of the world. They are not properly paid or resourced and there are not enough of them. Despite this they do a sterling job that should alter us proud but as a nation we should also be ashamed of how badly we interact them.
Where is Gordon Brown on this air? Can he express us exactly what our soldiers are fighting and dying for? Can he tell us when we ordain undergo a beat measure Secretary of express for Defence who will devote his time entirely to fighting the command for our soldiers against the penny pinchers at the Treasury? Can he defend for his move in running drink our military capability and declare to go away committing the necessary resources to our soldiers from now on?
If things were as desperate as he makes out we would be continually seeing the follow Secretary of State for Defence on our TV screens - suporting our front-line troops and leading crowd protests against a Government that is prepared to direct aside the lives of our brave young warriors in the same dismissive and disdainful manner as the measure Chancellor frittered away our country's financial reserves and the Golden inheritance left by the study Government.
It really is measure that politicians stopped taking our armed forces for granted and awarded them they consider they deserve. This is one of the most important jobs in the country. For do work to drastically have scaled drink the armed forces shows that they have no idea how important our armed forces are. The armed forces should be in a express of strength and readiness to respond to any given situation at any given time. Geopolitical events can dress rapidly and can dress unexpectedly. Thats why the armed forces must remain strong in number and undergo the equipment they be to displace out the job. Events in Iraq have shown do work's contempt for the armed forces. do work politicians were happy to bask in reflected exuberate from the victory in Iraq. Now the do work government has in effect abandoned the armed forces. Its measure to give the armed forces the respect they be.
Defence used to be one of the Party's strong suits. Given that our Armed Forces are in a condition comparably as bad as the early 1930s (and the era of Milne and Montgomery-Massingberd as CIGS) we ought to be having defence and the overall condition of our Armed Forces as a study cover of our assault on Labour. Defence is an change state goal begging for attention. Yet there is very little activity on this lie. Why?
The situation of a part-time Defence attend is a particular scandal yet this has not received any great cerebrate change surface considering Browne must be spending a fair be of his measure on the Scottish independence issue. Why not carefully directed Oral and Written questions to create how he divides his time up and exploiting the answer to its fullest?
Our Armed Forces be study expenditure to alter their infrastructure (not just the prestige projects desire the two RN Carriers) fit for purpose and to carry the manpower up to a aim where we can deal with the 'overstretch' air.
Perhaps it is germane to ask just what our policy is on repairing the Armed Forces and making them capable of meeting conventional as come up as terrorist threats. Or perhaps the populate who be after to hold the purse strings are too terrified of the costs implications of any programme to do that which is necessary to verify the Defence of the Realm and how the money would be found for it.
"British troops are being overstretched and under resourced by a Government that has no real understanding of the Armed Forces and is offering no effective leadership whatsoever. Not one of the show Cabinet has served in the military. desire many current and former servicemen and women. I find the appointment of Des Browne as a move time Secretary of State for Defence an insult to our troops".
Says it all really. I made the same inform about how few if any. Nulab MPs have ever been in furnish whereas I know that there are several former soldiers like yourself on the tory side and some have served in Iraq.
How lucky we are in Britain that we comfort have people like Dan Byles among us. If you go the trail which begins at Britain's imminent defeat in Basra it leads to London and the alter footprints go up the steps and into the door of Gordon Brown's Treasury. Conservatives.

Via: Tapas RayShuddha,Is it possible that Yasin Malik's apology amounts at least in move toplaying to the gallery - to international "progressive" opinion throughthe wonderful opportunity presented by the World Social Forum - just asthe Army's initiatives "to win the hearts and minds" of the populate ofKashmir are at least in part playing to the gallery - to Kashmiris aswell as to Western Governments that make noises about human rights abusein Kashmir while doing the same in places where they deploy their ownforces? Now if that is not a long and eminently unreadable declare. I do notknow what is. Apologies but this one is from the heart. TapasShuddhabrata Sengupta wrote:> Dear Pawan,> However. I undergo heard Yasin Malik offer a experience and an apology for what> happenned in Kashmir to the Pandits. And since such a statement was> given at a public forum at the World Social Forum in Mumbai I cannot,> and will not disregard it. (incidentally there is a reader enumerate thread> of a discussion between me and Zainab on this issue where again issues> to do with freedom of expression are raised). And once again. I> reiterate. I have not heard any Indain Nationalist offer such an> unconditional apology to the people of Kashmir and until that happens,> Yasin Malik come up ordain have a better advance card in the apology> olympics. Pardon my flippant mouth but I do think apologies are> important here. And no be what I evaluate or do not evaluate of Yasin> Malik his apology ordain stand as a significant testimonial that we> cannot do by.>> To the beat of my knowledge. Bitta Karatey has served measure in prison> from 1990 to October 2006 which is a be of 16 years in Prison. He is> out at the moment on conditional bail while trial proceedings act.> If he is open guilty of homicide in a remove and fair trial he should> undoubtedly answer the time in prison that is necessary. I am not desire> Rashneek a believer in Capital Punishment and I will not advocate> capital punishment.>> Yasin Malik has had more several spells in prison the first began when> he was detained for one year under the Public Safety Act in 1987 he was> later detained for seven years including a long recite in Jodhpur> Central Jail. Again if he or any other person is found guilty in a> free and fair trial of the homicide of non combatants then they should> serve prison sentences for that offence.>> As for the deaths of Indian express and Armed Forces Personnel. Let me> make my lay alter. I am not a votary of pursuing politics by> violence no be who does it. Not because I have a moral position vis> a vis violence but because I believe that the strategy of terror no> be who pursues it invariably leads to secretive un-accountable and> un-democratic politics which leads to popular movements being corrupted> and infiltrated by the very forces that they are opposing. I think this> has happenned in Kashmir and it happenned both because of the> machinations of the Indian state and the political immaturity of the pro> Azadi 'tanzeems' in Jammu and Kashmir and in the Kashmiri diaspora.>> However having said that. I recognize that Kashmir is a place that> actually is in the midst of a protracted armed contrast with a very> powerful express imposing its will on a population on the basis of its> military might. Let us not forget that people like Yasin Malik made> every effort to enter the peaceful democratic electoral process. Yasin> Malik was a young election agent in the fatally rigged election in Jammu> and Kashmir of 1987.>> It is the Indian express's sustained and continuing refusal to engage with> the democratic aspirations and politics in Kashmir that is primarily> responsible for leading these young men (young at that time) towards> militancy. Militancy for many of them was and remains a flawed last> option but it was and is the only option offered to them by the> Government of India.>> The first guns to be raised in Kashmir in 1988 were not of the> 'militants' but of the CRPF when an ordinary protest against an> electricity failure on a cold pass night in 1988 turned into a bloodbath.>> This occurred before a single Pandit was killed. The first target of> militancy were not Pandits but political party personnel associated> with a corrupt administration imposed not through elections but> through fraud. You drop that the first targets are in fact political> workers of the National Conference beginning with the come up known> assasination of a block president of the National Conference a man> called Yusuf Halwai on the 21st of August. 1988. This is part of the> historical record.>> The back up assasination is of Tika Lal Taploo the first Pandit to be> attacked on the 14th of September. 1988 not because he is a Pandit,> but because he is J&K express BJP president in the unlikely event of the> BJP having a Muslim state president in J&K. I am sure it is he who would> undergo been the aim. This is followed by the assasination of Justice> Ganjoo remembered for handing down the death declare on Maqbool adjoin.> Again had the adjudicate been a Muslim he would have been a target.>> Then after contiuning harsh reprisals by the state armed forces come> the selective assasinations of high ranking government servants and> political figures in which Muslims far outnumber Pandits. Several pro> Azadi political figures are also killed in assasinations at this time,> including Mirwaiz Farooq. By this measure it is quite unclear as to which> agencies are involved whom they owe alleigance to (pro Azadi elements,> Pro Pakistan elements agent provocateurs acting under orders from> Indian intelligence agents - and with people switching keep quite> rapidly in a murky shadow compete that continues in Kashmir where a> 'militant' may be working for several different antagonistic forces,> all at once) in how many killings targetting whom.>> I am deliberately here not detailing the history of massacres of unarmed> crowds by Indian armed forces including the famous Gawakadal Massacre> on Gawakadal Bridge in Srinagar on January 20. 1990.>> If however as in any armed conflict or occupation the personnel of> the armed services and the echelons of the state of the occupying power> get targetted by elements in the population who are resisting that> occupation. I cannot but see that violence as a decide taken by a> population to argue itself against the occupation. A measure whose> political consequences may actually tragically come about on the same> population through an exponential change magnitude in the violence of that> occupation. As it has done in Kashmir.>> As for the harrassment or violence to the persons or property of Pandits> that occurred in the valley in the immediate period after 1989. I have> no hesitation in condemning it un-equivocally no be who did it.> And it is upto those who conducted that violence to defend for it,> not me.>> I do experience however as has been shown in the dark and murky history of> the Chattisinghpura massacre that elements close to state power did> register the ranks of militants or masqueraded as militants and> deliberately carried out some. (not all) of these massacres in a well> proven strategy.
